Family Engagement
Family Engagement is an interactive process through which staff, family members and children build positive, goal oriented relationships with one another.
The goals of Parent, Family and Community Engagement are to establish family well-being, reinforce positive parent-child relationships, encourage families to become lifelong educators of their children, support families as learning leaders, connect families to their peers and community, and assist in the transition to new learning environments.
One of the main reasons our programs are so successful is because of the high level of parent and family participation, which we strongly encourage. Parents and family members who are involved become a part of our family and can also reinforce the learning taking place at school in their home.
Family passes for Cultural Institutions
Cool Culture offers families access to approximately 100 art and cultural institutions across New York City at no cost. Visiting museums, botanical gardens, zoos and performing arts centers are opportunities for families to engage in experiences offered by having the Cool Culture Family Pass that entitles up to five family members free admission.
The Downtown Brooklyn Neighborhood Alliance
The Downtown Brooklyn Neighborhood Alliance (DBNA) is a collaborating partner that offers Barclay’s Arena related programs to qualified organizations through the Community Tickets Program.
In-Kind Service
We rely on parent volunteers and donations to meet 20% of our non-federal share grant requirements. Even a half hour of your time to assist teachers, family services, or the kitchen is appreciated.
